The Tenbury Swimming Pool faces an uncertain future with best case scenario operating losses of £10,727 in 2022/23 and £134,028 in 2023/24 without financial support and community action due to the energy price increases and rising inflation.

Tenbury Pool Update - June 18 2020

18 June 2020 Newsletter

During the last two weeks of May, TCP trustees had much to organise as the emphasis moved from completing fund raising applications for over £98,000 to getting ready to start the Phase 1 swimming pool, gym and leisure facility development two weeks early. The list of tasks for all has been non- stop

Contact us at info@tenburypool.co.uk Or Phone 01584-819653

  • Zoom calls with Freedom Leisure, Andy Hicks our Quantity Surveyor and Rod the TCP building CDM guru without whom we could not have got this far
  • Tom our FL Centre Manager had to add to his weekly duties at Tenbury during the virus shut down to clear out the old office and lobby of all desks, paperwork & equipment round the pool ready for the Building Contractors MJCBS site manager Cam to get started
  • The dead tree that had been set on fire when the car was dumped in the parking space was cut down and the one next to it had to be trimmed by a local qualified tree surgeon before building work started
  • On Sunday May 31, TCP trustees and member friends, Rod, Jane, Mike, Ade, Simon were busy laying out tape & bollards on the car park to make sure the builders compound could be located as agreed with Tenbury Town Council and set up the next day and trying to locate the storm drainage into the brook
  • The footings had to go deeper than Rod’s original drawings to conform to new building regulations rules on tree roots next to building extensions
  • On Monday June 1 2020, Cam, the MJCBS site manager, set up the secure MJCBS site with his team including welfare, cabins, skips and fencing around the working area. The site looks very clean and professional
  • The ground works team started on the footings which by the end of week two were completed awaiting the concrete delivery next Monday– even the loose sand had been swept away
  • The footings were excavated for the new office / gym and studio and drainage/services
  • Mark and his team from MT Heating exposed all the plumbing from the Male changing room to enable new wall for family changing room & showers
  • Chris and his team from Teme Valley Electrics have been working to clear and identify all the old cabling and start the new reception, office and IT lay out
  • Ian and his team from ESG have been working on the new ductwork needed fort the additional changing rooms and improvements to the site, gym and pool ventilation. Hope they are enjoying their stay in Tenbury as they work away from homes in Ipswich
  • The building inspector reviewed and gave the go ahead on the new footings and the electric trench
  • Tenbury Town Council and Worcester City Council reviewed and approved the car park light removal and re-siting of the car park light underground cabling

As the trustees write this update – week three has started! The concrete for the studio and new gym/office should be delivered and the walls should go up!

More good news from Sport England who confirmed the TCP CAF application has at last after 12 months all been completed and claim forms from TCP can be submitted when invoices received! Even better news, TCP trustees are confident that they are close to closing the funding gap and Phase Two of the project for the refurbishment of the changing rooms can be started as soon as possible. MJCBS have been asked to rework the building schedule to include the changing rooms. More fund applications Io find and complete for the variations to the contract to date and to make sure TCP have a contingency for everyday costs and phase three.

Freedom Leisure are planning to reopen facilities in line with Government guidance and under our “new normal” operating procedures with the necessary social distancing and hygiene measures in place to provide you with a safe, clean and comfortable environment to use on the completion of the building work.

Tenbury Pool Update - May 22 2020

Exciting News - Tenbury Community Pool and Gym Buld development to start June 1st !

With the attached PDF. Despite the fact that TCP are still chasing £95k of funds to do everything, we decided to take advantage to the closed facility during leisure centre lock downs to get the build started with Phase 1 while the premises are empty with all the new build first and do the changing rooms when we have raised more funds (2 grant applications submitted awaiting response) during fundraising events including the sponsor a locker campaign.

News is being sent to Tenbury Advertiser, Tescos notice board and other Tenbury Town windows so hope we can get the message out to all as FL do not have access to their central e mail system as they are on furlough leave! We always knew this would cause TCP a problem as we did not have the e mail addresses but just did not make FL comply before the lock down. Let us hope this is one of the changes when the facility reopens although when that will be, who knows.

Again thank you for your patience at this time we will bring you more updates as we can. If you have any questions please contact the centre directly either by email on tenburyenquiries@freedom-leisure.co.uk or call us on 01584 810448 and we would be happy to help.

Tenbury Pool Closure Due to Flooding 17 February 2020

TCP & Freedom Leisure would like to thank everyone for your patience and understanding whilst we have been assessing damage to the swimming pools pump systems following the flooding in the area.

Unfortunately flood water has found its way into our pool plant room during the course of the weekend. Following clean up efforts from our team yesterday morning contractors attended the centre to assess potential damage to our core pool operating equipment, we are sorry to say that the water level in the plant room was substantial and has fully submerged all of the pumps which have had to be removed from the centre to be cleaned for further assessment.

During this time the swimming pool will remain closed to all use, we will aim to get a further update to you on friday when we will hopefully have a timescale for the repairs and a date that we will be able to reopen the swimming pool. However the gym and changing facilities are open as normal again.

Again thank you for your patience at this time we will bring you more updates as we can. If you have any questions please contact the centre directly either by email on tenburyenquiries@freedom-leisure.co.uk or call us on 01584 810448 and we would be happy to help.

Tenbury Community Pool News - 28th October 2019

Following the success of TCP’s fund raising activities, the trustees have continued to strive, on behalf of all members, to get the changing rooms refurbished before the end of 2019 with a minimum affect on opening times at the pool.

TCP Trustees believe the goal to the project’s success is to ensure Tenbury’s swimming pool and leisure facility lasts for the next twenty years.

There has been a great deal of activity on details for the Development between the TCP Trustees, Project Manager, Principal Designer, Freedom Leisure and MJCBS (the TCP appointed construction contractor from Stourport). To that end MJCBS drafted a detail Schedule of Works outlining how all the complex component parts can come together including supplies from four sub contractors which the team reviewed together.

TCP would like to thank all for their work so far and share our updates and decisions made.

Longer lead times from suppliers of products needed for a swimming pool, which have very specific health and safety necessities, mean it is not possible to complete the male and female changing rooms before Christmas 2019.

The TCP project team still have much work to do to record any missing details required in 2019 so that the work agreed can be finished in one go in early 2020. This will allow all the trades to complete work in one phase.

The plan is to start the work in February / March 2020 when all the supplies will have been sourced as TCP have agreed with Freedom Leisure not to disrupt the January period.

Tenbury Community Pool News - October 2019

All the TCP volunteers hoped that raising the funds for the project was the hardest part for the swimming pool gym and leisure facility development. We were not entirely correct! However TCP, with the arrival of our new Project Manager Sam Hine, made good progress recently outlining plans for the 2019 Phase 1 work

Engaging with our preferred building contractor Mark James Construction Building Services in Stourport to agree details with our major 3rd party suppliers all takes time. The latest update on activity includes:

  1. Building regulations have been submitted. Further plans of the changing rooms have been agreed and are being worked on using the CAD/CAM system by TCP gym supporter Rod Owens
  2. We are very lucky that Freedom Leisure have appointed Chris as their PM. He has a wealth of experience in the leisure industry and has been involved in much larger FL new and refurbishments for swimming pools, gym and leisure facility projects. Many queries from all suppliers via our TCP Project Manager continue to be answered daily with many site visits
  3. Changing room tiles, floor and ceiling coverings, colours and sizes all being considered for MJCBS to tie into the phase I plan. Work on the new build will be phase II hopefully starting in March 2020. Finding space for new dry gym only users lockers is in progress as the drawings continue to be updated
  4. New ventilation, heating and humidity levels throughout the building have to be resolved through discussion with TCP, MJCBS, ESG and the Freedom Leisure team
  5. The measurements for new showers including one closed cubicle, new changing cubicles with doors plus one wider family/wheelchair friendly changing cubicle, new lockers & locks in both the male and ladies changing rooms has involved all the team, working together with the supplier Prospec
  6. We are continuing to talk to replacement window suppliers to ensure the triple glazed windows selected are not just good to look at but are fit for purpose in a swimming pool environment
  7. Plumbing – M T Heating have worked very hard this year with TCP & FL to resolve the shower problems in the changing rooms and during the last 6 weeks we have enjoyed showers every day
  8. Temporary showers and changing area for the gents will be provided whilst their room is used by the ladies during the changing room refurbishment

Tenbury Community Pool News - September 2019

TCP want to thank everyone for their patience and support

After the last four year’s hard work, TCP’s time consuming, often frustrating and sometimes down heartening fund raising work, to make the TCP development plans happen are finally coming to fruition.

The Directors of Tenbury Community Pool Ltd are thrilled to let everyone know the funds needed are now all almost in place!

Malvern Hills District Council has approved our Section 106 Grant Fund application for £199,291.68!! This amounts to 100% of the Section 106 money currently allocated to Tenbury. MHDC congratulated TCP on their thorough and detailed application as a prime example of good practice

Furthermore, Sports England has made a conditional award of £50,000 to the TCP from the Community Asset Fund on the TCP submission. Final paperwork requested to be completed before confirmation.

In addition, other TCP fund raising events and local donations made to TCP currently amounting to £90,000. The TCP ‘Sponsor a Locker’ campaign during November should raise a further £26,000. Other local business and fund raising applications should result in the filling of the £65,000 gap to enable the campaign to be a success. TCP will be promoting the fund raising and center development at the Tenbury Applefest in October.
